In this article, I’m going to talk about how to make money making comedy skits in Nigeria.

To start shooting videos, first of all, you need to write scripts. To get creative, you should come up with different comedy titles that you want to showcase. I suggest you write titles for various comedies that you want to shoot. Take some time to write the scripts for them as well. It’s important to consider the time frame you have set. If you want your comedy to last 45 minutes, ensure that your script fits within the given time.
Another thing on our list is the device. You need a good device to shoot videos with clear pictures. Many people use an iPhone or a top-range Android or iOS device. These devices come with high-end, beautiful cameras, which is a blessing.
Next, you’ll need video editing software. Editing the shots, adding text, and enhancing the videos will require a little time and some expertise. You might want to watch YouTube tutorials on how to edit videos using software like CapCut, which is easy to use. With a little practice, your video will be ready for upload in no time. It doesn’t need high editing skills and you can see that from the comedy skits on the platforms.
Now, it’s time to get your videos on YouTube. First of all, you need a YouTube account. You can easily sign up for an account using your Gmail. After signing up, you need to create a channel on YouTube and give it a name that suits your comedy. Start uploading your videos to your channel.
YouTube has requirements for monetization. First, you need to reach 4000 watch hours, which is not difficult when people watch your videos regularly.
A quick tip on getting subscribers fast on YouTube: Always put a section in your videos that tells viewers to subscribe. Tell them that they need to subscribe so that they don’t miss a thing or so that they don’t miss your super exciting video that’s coming up next week.
Secondly, you need to have at least 1,000 subscribers to your YouTube channel to qualify for monetization. It’s not difficult, especially if you have good content that people enjoy. Within a short period, like three months, you should be able to qualify for monetization.
At this point, you might find the YouTube monetization process a bit confusing. But don’t worry, it’s not difficult. Join Facebook groups for YouTubers and seek guidance from experienced content creators. They will help you navigate through the process, which is actually quite simple.
Consistency is key throughout this journey. Many people make thousands of dollars monthly from YouTube by consistently posting videos.
Now that we’ve talked about making money on YouTube with your comedy, let’s look at making money from other platforms like TikTok. TikTok is a platform where you can easily start making money by creating shorter videos. As your followers increase, you stand a chance of making good money. To make money on TikTok, you don’t necessarily need to qualify for monetization, but you do need to reach 1,000 subscribers to be able to start earning coins. Building up to 1,000 subscribers might seem challenging, but it’s not.
A quick tip on getting subscribers fast on TikTok: You need to join live sessions that are focused on pinning streamers. What I’m saying is, you can on TikTok and search “live”, and join the one focused on growing followers. The host will pin individual streamers and ask other streamers to follow the person. People who have followed this advice had grown from zero followers to one thousand followers in four days. I’d also want you to make 2 or 3 videos in this period.
After reaching 1,000 subscribers on TikTok, you are now qualified to go live on the platform. When you go live, you might be wondering how people will give you money, but the truth is, people do give a lot of money. I’ve seen someone make thousands of dollars quickly by posting on TikTok and going live daily. So, you can do it too.
Another platform I want to talk about is making money on Facebook Reels. Nigerians are not allowed to monetize their Facebook Reels directly. However, people in Nigeria like Oga Sabinus and Broda Shaggy are still making money from Facebook Reels.
Here’s how they do it: They allow someone from Europe or the US to create a Facebook page for them and post content from there. Since Europe and the US are allowed to monetize their pages, the money they make from the Facebook page through ads and monetization is shared with the person in Nigeria who keeps posting content. In my opinion, content creators should receive at least 90% of the total earnings.
With everything I’ve mentioned, you can start making money from TikTok and Facebook Reels at the same time. However, I highly recommend starting with YouTube and then exploring other avenues such as paid advertising or creating Facebook videos on TikTok. It may seem difficult at first, but once you start, it becomes easier. Just make sure to get a good device and video editing software for your phone or computer, and start creating content.
